So we’ve invited two leading minds of global trade and law to delicately walk us through this complex and changing international climate.

Guest Bio: Professor Sara McGaughey (PhD, MBA) is currently seconded to Griffith Asia Institute where she leads the International Business and Investment program. Her research and teaching in International Business is at the intersection of international strategy and entrepreneurship. Current projects explore productivity spillovers through foreign direct investment; the internal organisation of multinational enterprises; international new venturing by small firms; institutional entrepreneurship and global standards; and corporate entrepreneurship, where she has recently published a book with a past executive of Siemens (Amberg & McGaughey). Professor McGaughey has held positions at Strathclyde University (Glasgow, UK), University of Leeds (UK), Copenhagen Business School (Denmark), and University of New South Wales (Australia). In a previous life Sara worked in small, entrepreneurial firms in Japan and Mexico.

Guest Bio: Dr Melanie O’Brien is a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the TC Beirne Law School, University of Queensland (UQ), Australia. Her research examines the connection between human rights and the genocide process. Melanie sits on the International Association of Genocide Scholars’ (IAGS) Advisory Board and is co-convenor of the 2017 IAGS Conference at UQ. She is an Australian Red Cross QLD International Humanitarian Law Committee member, and is on the Editorial Boards of Human Rights Review and IAGS journal Genocide Studies and Prevention. Melanie’s book Criminalising Peacekeepers: Modernising National Approaches to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse will be published in 2017 by Palgrave. Melanie teaches in international criminal law, international human rights law and comparative criminal law. Melanie’s previous work includes Anti-Slavery Australia (UTS); the ARC Centre of Excellence in Policing and Security (Griffith University); the National Human Rights Institution of Samoa; and the Legal Advisory Section of the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court.
